My Journey
Aside from the food and exercise this journey has taught me to be a better person, husband and father. I thought my marriage was great and that I was already the best father I could be. Learning everything I have so far in this self-development journey, I realized I had many levels more to gain, to grow and learn to be better.
It took me six months of battling which I call the "lazy voices" to join a gym and take the next level i know i needed to take to transform mentally stronger. I quickly relized it was the daily tasks that I initially didn't want to do, which were making me stronger and making it easier to execute each day. So I thought of a few and picked the one I thought would be the most uncomfortable for to do every day.
I started with one daily habit/routine and promised myself I wouldn't miss a day so I could build trust and belief in myself. That routine was to have a cold shower first thing in the morning.
Something that sounds so easy, yes I know. But not missing one these past twenty-four months was very tough. I remember the first few weeks, going to bed at night and thinking of the cold shower that next very morning. Facing those lazy voices and battling the excuses they bring. Executing this task as part of my daily routine every day, started the mental toughness transformation I needed to push on with all my other wins along the way.

I quickly realised there were two types of hard. Unhealthy, overweight and mentally weak. Or the hard, eating healthy, exercising regularly and working on my mental toughness.
Either way it was going to be hard, so I knew which hard I wanted.
From that, I introduced making my bed as soon as I rolled out of it. Again, sounds simple right? Yet, not many of us do it everyday. The importance of this task is starting the day completing your first task within seconds of starting your day.
Any task after that just comes easier. The cold water? Who in their right mind wants to get out of a warm bed and into cold water? Not many. The importance of starting your day doing something you don't want to do builds on your resilience and momentum for anything else thrown at you that day.
My first year on this journey was the hardest, but the most enjoyable and satisfying. Diving into the unknown world of fitness and walking into a gym membership for the first time made it clear how this can be very intimidating for many people.
I wish I had somone by my side to guide me through it all. But that was never going to happen. I quickly realised no one was coming to save me and that I had to do the work on my own. I might not have known how exactly most of the gym equipment really worked, but I had half an idea of how a treadmil worked. So the hardest thing for me at that stage was getting past the heaviest weight in the gym, the front door. I made a promise to myself that I would get in five days a week no matter what. After all I had learnt and practised the last six months, I knew there was no doubting myself. I had six months of mental strength training under my belt that I was taking in with me.
I will never forget the first couple of days I arrived just before opening hours. As I walked in the lady at reception was sitting with the life guard on duty and got up to show me the lights and air-conditioning if I was to every arrive first again in future. She went back in and I couldn't help but notice them speaking and giggling to one another. Now call it what you want, I know when somone is talking about me. Nevertheless day one under my belt, and back the next morning same time for day two. Same two at reception and the same giggling and laughter after I say hello and walk in the gym.
If I was to guess, they were laughing at what they thought was another gym quiter. Like many more before me, who doesn't know somone who had joined a gym and paid a membership to never go or have it expire months after joining. After building my mental strength, I can now understand why people give up and lose out to the lazy voices.
Day three and again the same arrival time and two at reception. This time tho, there was no laughter. Just a respectful hello. Let me tell you after roughly ten or so weeks of me not missing a single day at the gym, that same life guard walking into the gum one morning and came straight to to me to ask who I was listening to and what my weekly routine looked like. He was fascinated with what I had to say about my eating and mental toughness routines. It was at that exact moment when it struck me. Just show up. Just do the work. Everyday, it never ends, every day.
There's no finish line. That's the secret formula, it's been in front of us all along. All we need to do is find a way to execute it every day.
I might not have known all the fancy terms, exercises or the science behind it. But I knew how to turn up and that's how I started getting traction.
I quickly realised there were two types of hard. The hard I had found myself in the last. Unhealthy, overweight and mentally weak. Or the hard, eating healthy, exercising regularly and working on my mental toughness. Either way it was going to be hard, so I knew which hard I wanted. I saw this hard work as an investment for living the longest and healthiest life I could live. To see my children grow old and enjoy many years with hopefully grand children of my own.
At that stage I wanted to share my knowledge of health, well-being and mental toughness with anyone i came in contact with. But, I quickly understood that you can only teach those who are ready and want to learn. It wasn't enough, I needed to reach more and more people who I knew were out there suffering and stuck not knowing how to take the first steps.
So on the 24/10/24 Realfoodenergy made its first post. It was a way for me to showcase my way of living to the world and build a tribe of people ro not only follow my journey but start their own. Instantly I had people reach out asking many questions on my way of eating, shopping, cooking and exercise. I was blown away with the support, but wasn't surprised at the amount of people stuck in a not so happy place of health and fitness. So many, couldn't find it in themselves to even go for a walk each day after dinner. This put more fuel in my fire to push on and grow to help as many people as I could.
Two weeks in I received a message which blew me away. I had a follower reach out who is in their mid 40's let me know that my page had inspired them to not only start eating healthy and join a local gym, but to stop drinking alcohol. They wanted to thank me for all the content I was putting out. I'm happy to say, after staying in contact on a weekly basis, they are still going strong and haven't had a drink for over five months. Our weekly phone calls and messages have helped them continue this journey towards wellness and happiness.
I went home that night and told my wife "this is exactly what this platform was created for."
In the same week I had another follower reach out and ask for me to call them to discuss in depth some of my weekly routines. Again I was more than happy to help them with their journey. It's been the best feeling being a part of these transformation these past five months.
So with all this and many more amazing connections along the way so far.
